Rain Barrel WorkshopS

In 2025, the Newport News Master Gardeners will conduct multiple Rain Barrel Workshops. 

 

Location: Brittingham Midtown Community Center, 570 McLawhorne Drive, Newport News, VA 23601.

 

Time: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM (Presentation and Assembly usually take an hour)

March 22, 2025

April 26, 2025

May 17, 2025

June 21, 2025

The cost of the workshop is $65. You will be provided with a 55-gallon, food-grade barrel and all the parts needed to convert it into a rain barrel. There will be a demonstration on how to assemble the barrel, followed by Master Gardeners assisting each registrant in completing the barrel assembly. 

 

Below is a video that shows the assembly process as well as documents you may find useful for rain barrel preparation, water conservation and gardening.

Register below for the date of the workshop you wish to attend. Once registered, you will be notified of any changes in dates and times.

Vermiculture WorkshopS

Save some space in your calendar for one of our fantastic workshops! Learn about the benefits of raising worms in your own home and walk away with your own complete worm composting bin.  Your kids will LOVE this project!  

 

Vermiculture kits are $30 and must be reserved in advance.

Plant Sale

May 3rd from 9:30am to 5:30pm

Location: Brittingham Midtown Community Center, 570 McLawhorne Drive, Newport News, VA 23601

Our spring plant sale features native plants (plugs and pots) along with, native shrubs, as well as houseplants, ornamentals, perennials, herbs, veggie plants, and a few surprises, too. All plant sales benefit our Horticulture Grants for Newport News Public & Private Schools & other Master Gardener Programming. Our Master Gardener Help Desk will be on site to answer your horticulture questions.
